Tsavorite was first discovered in 1967 by Scottish geologist Campbell R. Bridges in Tanzania. He later found larger deposits in the Tsavo region of Kenya. The name Tsavorite comes from the large national park Tsavo National Park in Kenya. Tsavorite is, together with Demantoid, the rarest and most valuable variety of Garnet. It is very rare to find stones free or with very little inclusions as Tsavorite is known to be a stone with a lot of inclusions in it.
